Pochette stamped "Wigley" who had a music store in London around 1800. LOB 8 inches, Playing string length 10 1/2 inches, total length 17 1/4 inches. Condition is very good, no cracks. Sound post in place. Bridge is my improvisation. No case.

SOLD 

A late 18th Century English Cittern (Guittar) by John Preston 1735-70. The Watch key tuners were supposedly invented by Preston as seen engraved on the tuners. On the back of the neck is stamped "(initials logo) Preston Maker, London". Restoration would require one piece of finger board Tortoise, two frets, nut, 10 pcs. MOP and bridge. Strings were attached to pins on bottom, now absent. Neck is solidly attached to body..

The cornemuse of central France is distinguished by a tenor drone held in the chanter stock beside the chanter. Often bellows-blown and without bass drone, it is characteristically played with the hurdy-gurdy. This one is missing its air intake pipe. This style is also called "Chabrette dans le Limousin".

An interesting Hurdy Gurdy, mostly because of what is has and does not have. It never had a wheel cover, as seen by lack of cover holders. It does, however, have return springs on the tangents and that cute door on the side of the scroll. There is also that tuning peg near the left F hole. The back is in very decent condition with no cracks. Missing parts include two drone bridges, end wall of tangent box and two small bone or Ivory pieces used as string guides at lower edge. SOLD 

A Cittern with watch key tuners with an added Ivory "keyboard" which strikes down on two strings. It is attached with two Ivory "nuts". Tuners appear to be in good condition, as is the keyboard. The back has numerous splits hold together with duck tape. Residue from tape is removed using "Gloop" or other glue removers. Neck and fingerboard are fine.
